  6. SnoopDos patches a variety of AmigaDOS library functions that
  7. are commonly called by other programs and allows you to monitor
  8. the activities carried out by those programs.
  9.  
  10. For example, you can see what files a program is looking for,
  11. what fonts it opens, and any special libraries or devices that
  12. it requires. This is often invaluable when you are trying to
  13. install a new application which has complex or inadequate
  14. documentation

  16. NEW FEATURES
  17.  
  18. Many features have been added to SnoopDos since version 1.7.
  19. Here's a brief list of the most important additions:
  20.  
  21.   o  Over 20 new system functions are supported
  22.   o  A full GUI provides easy access to all options
  23.   o  The output format can be customised using a new format editor
  24.   o  Output that scrolls off the window can be recalled
  25.   o  Messages sent by ARexx scripts can be monitored
  26.   o  Commodity support lets SnoopDos run in the background
  27.   o  Clipboard support lets you cut and paste output
  28.   o  Programs that use ixemul.library for i/o can be monitored
  29.   o  A packet debugger lets programmers monitor all DOS packets
  30.   o  Over 100 ARexx commands provide for unattended operation
  31.   o  Online AmigaGuide help covers all aspects of operation

  33. For those interested, the source code for SnoopDos is available in
  34. a separate archive called snoopdos30_src.lha.

  36. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  37.  
  38. Kickstart 2.04 or above is required.
  39.  
  40. Some new features work better if the debugging utilities Sushi
  41. and SegTracker are installed, but these are not essential.

  43. PROGRAM SECURITY
  44.  
  45. Several bogus versions of SnoopDos have appeared in the past
  46. two years. These have been disguised as legitimate updates while
  47. harbouring trojan horses or other undesirable intruders. The most
  48. recent such release, labelled 2.0, is still generally available.
  49.  
  50. To help guard against this happening in the future, all new
  51. versions of SnoopDos will be signed using PGP (Pretty Good
  52. Privacy) by Philip Zimmermann. This allows anyone who is in
  53. possession of my PGP public key to verify that a particular
  54. release genuinely came from myself and not from a third party.
  55.  
  56. PGP is not required to use SnoopDos; it merely allows you to
  57. verify that you have a legitimate and unmodified copy. You can
  58. download PGP from the /pub/aminet/util/crypt directory on
  59. Aminet. The filename is PGPAmiga2_3a.lha.

  61. My PGP public key is presented below for convenience. This key
  62. will work with all future releases of SnoopDos.

  64. If you have installed PGP, save this announcement to a file and
  65. then type "PGP <filename>" to install my key on your PGP keyring.
  66. You can then verify the integrity of SnoopDos by extracting the
  67. SnoopDos archive and typing "PGP Readme.first SnoopDos". See the
  68. PGP documentation for more information on verifying signatures.

  70. Note that my public key is never included with the main SnoopDos
  71. archive -- if it was, then anyone modifying the program could
  72. also modify the key and escape undetected.
